The Crafty Computer is a brand new resource for anyone who wants to use computers to help them with their craft. With distance learning courses, a bi-monthly magazine, a forum, a gallery, a market and web hosting services it's your one-stop shop for information, help, news, discussion and chat.
Not yet a member? Don't worry, there's still plenty to see! Just move your mouse over the links above, or the pictures on the right, to see what's available, and click when anything catches your interest!
The Magazine is updated every two months to give you a growing range of ideas and techniques from experienced computer users.
Just 15 UK pounds a year brings book reviews (with direct links to amazon.co.uk if you want to buy them); magazine reviews (with links to their web sites); web reviews (with - yes! - links to the sites we recommend); hardware and software reviews based on personal experience; and a kaleidoscope of how-tos, feature articles and sheer fun. Sign up today and find even more new ways to create with your computer...!
Since 1999 our Courses have helped students all over the world to make more creative use of their computers.
Members can preview course material here on the site, then download it in the form of web pages or (coming soon!) PDF files that print out as attractive step-by-step course notes. We'll support you by e-mail every step of the way, and our forum gives you the chance to chat and socialise with friendly, helpful fellow-students.
Our Creative Computing course is already well-established; watch out for new, short courses in the same easy and effective format!
The Gallery is a place where you can show your work to others – and see what they are doing, too.
Even if you're not a member you can take a look at the new techniques and creative ideas that our students are producing for the regular chat sessions on the Forum page: click now to visit the Gallery and then choose 'Pictures from chat sessions' to see what's new.
Other galleries will be changed month by month to keep up with the ever more surprising capabilities of new computer software — and to inspire visitors and members alike!
The Forum is the perfect place to meet people like yourself, friendly, helpful, and full of good ideas for harnessing the creative power of your computer.
Our regular scheduled chat sessions give everyone the opportunity to 'meet' lively fellow-enthusiasts and see what they're up to (most sessions feature simultaneous slide shows!)
There's an equally warm welcome in our (members only!) discussion groups. Pick a few brains, share your ideas, or just check through the postings to see what's going on. Come and share the fun with craftspeople from all over the world!
The Market gives our registered subscribers the chance to get even more from their membership with a range of special offers and discounts.
Here you can find the books you need for your craft (and your computer), with targeted searches on amazon.co.uk — we even do requests (so let us know what you're interested in).
You can buy our own range of publications, or find the best deals on other sites; and for our course students there are special discounts on top creative programs like CorelDraw and Paint Shop Pro.
Our Services area offers everything our members need for a strong web presence.
As a member you can put up a free personal web page right here on the site, and benefit from our ever-growing number of visitors.
Or, if you like, we can provide you with your own choice of domain name and up to 50Mb of fully interactive web space. What's more, we'll give you experienced and friendly help every step of the way, from first concept to final, fully operational site. (And don't forget our web design courses!)
